CMV (cytomegalovirus): Elizabeth's Story

Last updated 2 months ago

“The moment Elizabeth was born in 1989, I felt a stab of fear. My immediate thought was "Her head looks so small - so deformed." It was determined that Elizabeth was born with a very severe case of congenital CMV (cytomegalovirus) - she would never rollover, talk, walk or feed herself. Apparently, I had caught the virus when I was pregnant with her. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that CMV is the #1 viral cause of mental retardation and hearing loss - more common a cause of disabilities than Down syndrome.”
